Improving the grid regulation in the world: A new Grid Code for Morocco
Elia Grid International (EGI) is supporting the Moroccan Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development and the newly created National Agency for Regulation of Electricity in the drafting of the new Grid Code for access and operation of the transmission and the distribution of electricity in Morocco, as well as their standard connection and access agreements.
The project is funded and supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development https://www.ebrd.com/home to help the evolution of the electrical energy sector in Morocco, with the development of renewable energies and the progressive liberalization of the sector.
With its excellent knowledge and great experience of the European regulation, especially in Belgium and Germany, Elia Grid International has been able to provide benchmark expertise and to support constructive dialogue with the stakeholders, with several workshops and frequent exchanges.
The new Grid Code has been defined, based on the best practices of European regulation, followed by a sector analysis, taking into consideration the local characteristics and the expected targets in term of energy strategy, while preserving safe and sustainable development and operation of the Moroccan electricity networks. The new Grid Code covers eventually key regulatory aspects including the connection and the access to the grid, the grid planning, coordination between different system operators, the defence and restoration.
We are proud to work on this project, which will certainly have an important impact for supporting the electricity developments in Morocco.
