Energy Transition in Ukraine – Workshops on “Lessons Learned at Elia Group for RES Integration”
Ukrenergo benefits from energy transition knowledge of 50Hertz and Elia – fifth and final workshop on RES integration key lessons learnt completed.
The share of renewable electricity in Ukraine is rapidly increasing. Elia Grid International (EGI), the joint consulting subsidiary of 50Hertz and Elia, supports the Ukrainian transmission system operator Ukrenergo with a series of workshops on best practices for a successful transformation of the electricity system towards higher RES shares.
The five workshops achieved in a period of less than 3 months a dense exchange between experts from Ukraine and Germany, with a total of 40 sessions covering all key areas of the complex topic of RES integration: a) system planning and development, b) system operation, c) TSO strategy and positioning, d) market design and flexibility, e) regulation and finance. Through an innovative interactive method, the key lessons learnt from the vast experience of Elia Group were used as basis to identify the implementation gaps in the Ukrainian system.
The project is financed by funds of the German Federal Ministry for economics and energy (BMWi) and led by the German energy agency (Dena), in collaboration with Elia Grid International.
